Passages
An oddly bizarre sexy love triangle at a night club in Paris with three hot European stars Franz Rogowski (“Great Freedom”, “In the Aisles”), Ben Whishaw (“Bright Star”, “The Lobster”, “Women Talking”) and Adèle Exarchopoulos (“Blue Is the Warmest Colour”). American indie director Ira Sachs (“Forty Shades of Blue”, “Keep the Lights On”, “Love is Strange”) goes to France for the very first time in his lustrous career to explore tolerance, fidelity, jealousy, flirtation, loyalty, betrayal, and even hurtful revenge in a bumpy relationship. Hard love lessons are strange, passionate, cruel, and therefore too painful.
“I had sex with a woman! Can I tell you about it, please,” confesses the distracted German film director Tomas to his astounded English husband Martin. Last night he accidentally danced with a charming schoolteacher Agathe but never expected that a one-night-stand will turn into a steamy love affair. The long cherished marriage has dwindled, and Tomas seeks pleasure in the exciting embrace of Agathe. But then Martin bounces back with fiery feelings for a caring novelist. This (calculated?) act triggers selfish Tomas to reconsider his choices, which exacerbates conflicting desires even more.
After its premiere at Sundance, the film has screened in Berlin, Istanbul, Sydney, Chicago, Cluj, and elsewhere. The temperamental drama features remarkable performances and clever direction which leaves space for imagination, personal interpretations, and diverse emotions.
