For the first time, Tartuff’s open-air cinema will present a full screening of short films about love.

“Instead of one good film, audiences can now enjoy several at once,” said Heinrich Sepp, curator of the short film programme.

On the late evening of 11 August, no fewer than eight films from the PÖFF Shorts programme will be shown on the big screen in Tartu Town Hall Square.

Titled Shorts@Tartuff: Shorts with Love, the screening brings together fiction, documentary and animated films made between 2019 and 2024, representing the full spectrum of love and desire.

“Romantic and sexy,” reads the programme description.

The selection includes Vegan Mayonnaise by Hungary's Zsófi Herczegi, Fanny by France's Guillaume Scaillet, Climax by Germany's Bea Höller, Cyberbull! by US directors Hannah McSwiggen and Russell Sheaffer, Paola Makes a Wish by Swiss-Kazakh director Zhannat Alshanova, Carrotica by Germany's Daniel Sterlin-Altman, Embarrassing Intimacy by UK directors Emma Jude Harris and Emily Steck, and The Distance Between Us and the Sky by Greek filmmaker Vasilis Kekatos. The latter is the best-known title in the programme, having won the Short Film Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.

A short film was last shown on the open-air screen in Town Hall Square in 2023, when Franz Malmsten’s student film Over the Limit screened on the festival’s opening night. This year marks the first time that short films will be presented as a standalone screening in Tartuff’s open-air cinema.

The PÖFF's Love Film Festival Tartuff will take place from 8 to 15 August in Tartu Town Hall Square and at Tartu Elektriteater.

As always, all screenings are free of charge.
