Elderly Ren suddenly returns to his former home in Wuhan, only to find strangers living there. Among them are Jia, an auto mechanic riddled with debt, and Zhong, a young boy from the countryside renting a room. Neighbours by chance, they become complicit in pretending to be Ren’s new family. Zhong even has to convincingly play Ren’s lost son, Zhuangzhuang, a professional weightlifter. As a former coach, Ren cannot remember what happened to his champion son and encourages Zhong to train hard for an upcoming major competition.

Director Li Taiyan wrote his debut screenplay inspired by his grandmother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s. Jackie Chan has also spoken of similar experiences with his own mother, noting how this challenging role helped him connect with her memory.
