Strict religious traditions, a toxic relationship, and the turbulent life of an Orthodox family.

“If you think good, only good things will happen.”

Well, not always, but sometimes!

Canadian actress Monia Chokri has not been this brilliant since her performances in Xavier Dolan’s “Heartbeats” and “Laurence Anyways”.

This intimate drama is fuelled by intense emotions and centres on a deeply toxic relationship. Gil, a French Jewish woman, meets and instantly falls in love with Jacques, a wealthy Jewish businessman, in Dubai. They decide to marry there in a special ceremony led by a local rabbi, even though they barely know each other. As a modern Orthodox Jewish couple, they try to preserve key religious traditions and rituals wherever they go, including Paris. Although Gil works in the film industry, she is pressured to give up her career in favour of family life. After she gives birth to a baby girl, increasingly troubling events and decisions unfold.

Géraldine Nakache – sister of “The Intouchables” co-director Olivier Nakache – co-wrote this shocking story, which jumps back and forth through time to gradually reveal Jacques’s true face. Between romantic and caring moments, we witness his jealousy, obsession, and abusiveness. Yet, Gil clings to the remaining drops of love, strength, and compassion, determined to stay until she can no longer remain a silent, submissive wife.
