Salli
The modern world of dating is unimaginable without online platforms and apps designed to instantly match lonely souls. Strangely, almost everyone believes that it is still possible to find true love online, even though most seekers post made-up profiles, fake photos and fantasy nicknames. Hui-Jun, a 38-year-old Taiwanese farmer, struggles to form family ties and introduces herself as Salli, revealing the name of the rooster in the village barn. She is soon introduced to the Parisian Don Juan Martin, who suddenly starts asking for money to buy an apartment for their meetings. Everyone around Salli warns her that Martin is just another con man, but she decides to dream, fly to Paris and see what kind of love the dating site can really bring.
Having travelled from Busan to Gothenburg and from New York to Osaka (where Taiwanese debutant Lien Chien-Hung won the Most Promising Talent Award), this feel-good romantic comedy charmingly explores the paradoxical search for desire, passion, or lust.
