Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk
An uncompromising, unmissable, and heartfelt testament to the bravery of the Palestinian photojournalist Fatma Hassona.
The young charismatic Palestinian photographer Fatma Hassona and the prominent Iranian director Sepideh Farsi never met. While the eternal optimist Fatma documented the bloody destruction of the Gaza Strip under fierce occupation and unforgiving attacks of the Israeli army, Sepideh was travelling to promote her previous film “The Siren”. They constantly connected through online calls interrupted by poor Wi-Fi, weak connection or the director’s cat returning home in Paris.
Sepideh filmed Fatma from her phone during their conversations. That’s why we mostly see only her face. Fatma always smiled, downplayed all hazardous challenges and tried to be seen in a positive mood despite the very real threats looming at any minute. Sepideh and Fatma became best friends during these long-distance chats. They shared personal secrets, opinions, dreams, and daily experiences.
Sepideh edited a documentary from these recordings, lively interviews, and sincere talks and it was selected for Cannes. The day after the announcement of the ACID selection Fatma and her family were brutally killed in a regular Israeli air raid. Fatma was about to get married. The heartbreakingly current and unique documentary was also shown in Karlovy Vary, among other festivals.
