Chaperone
This is not your usual love story. Winner of two awards at the Slamdance IFF and produced entirely in Hawaii, this (anti-)romantic drama revolves around a toxic relationship, a la "May December", with sensual consequences. 29-year-old Misha desperately drifts from one short stint to the next. She is afraid of difficult decisions and commitment. Tremendous pressure from her parents and disappointed friends only frustrates and distances her. Misha feels lonelier than ever until she meets 18-year-old athlete Jake, who falls in love with her at first sight. Misha hides her real age and Jake mistakes her for a fellow student. Their encounters blossom into a steamy love affair as Misha recklessly uses her newfound feelings to patch up the holes in her heart
In her directorial debut, Hawaiian filmmaker Zoë Eisenberg wittily avoids cinematic clichés, boldly exposes her own real-life experiences, and casts two local actors in pivotal, extraordinary roles. This truly authentic, intimate and picturesque American indie gem challenges morality and ethics by examining the fears, lies and deceptions in complicated relationships.
A community-focused writer, director and producer, Zoë Eisenberg creates stories and spaces in and about her home on the big island of Hawai’i. Zoe's work has been supported by Tribeca Studios, Netflix, PBS and Hawaiian Airlines, and has played theatrically across Hawai'i.
Outside of her film work, Zoë is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Made in Hawai'i Film Festival, and an avid fiction writer. Her debut novel , SIGNIFICANT OTHERS, was published by HarperCollins/Mira in 2024. She is represented by CAA.
